Volunteer Information
It takes about 40 parent volunteers to host every home meet in the summer and we have 3-4 home meets throughout the season.
We rely on our parents to volunteer at every home meet. Below is a list of the different types of volunteer positions we need filled for our home meets.
Some jobs are much easier than others. Timing and working in the concessions stand are easier jobs to step into for a first time family. Other jobs like officiating and running HY-TEK take training but we are always happy to have new officials and someone to run the meet software. We will provide training for any of the jobs and most jobs will also give you the BEST view for your swimmers' events! All volunteer sign-ups take place on our website only. You can sign-up for your volunteer job at the same time you sign your swimmer up for a swim meet.
EVERY family MUST sign up to volunteer at home meets .
Volunteer Jobs include, but are not limited to:
- Concessions- Help in the concession stand! This is a perfect spot for newer families as it gives a taste (see what I did there) of the action while still allowing you to take a moment to go watch and cheer on your swimmer!
- Announcer- Announce events and play music. Bring the energy and the fun will follow! Report by 7:30 am through the end of the meet.
- Timers- Stand at the lanes with a stopwatch to record times and enjoy the BEST view of your swimmer! We need 14 timers per meet. NOTE: Rules state that anyone, other than coaches, on the pool deck are neutral and cannot cheer for their swimmer or any swimmers. Subs are available if you want to cheer for your child.
- Officials- Training is required for this duty. If interested, please contact Trisha Sutherland. We need to provide officials at all meets - home and away.
- Runners - Pick up cards from timers and give to the HY-TEK (results) table. Need 2 per meet.
- Clerk of Course (Staging) - Organize swimmers into their lanes and get them to staging area to pool deck before event. Takes 4-5 volunteers per meet.
- HY-TEK- Training is required for this duty. Enter swimmers times into the computer program.
- Scoring & Ribbon Distribution- Doublecheck that entered times are correct and put labels on ribbons! Front row seat to all the action, shaded area to sit in and first view of results! Two volunteers are needed per met.
- Pick Cards- A volunteer who is responsible for confirming the order of finish for each race.
- Heat Winner- Hand out prizes to the winner of each heat! Great view of the action on deck!
- Event Number Flipper- Keep track of what event the meet is on and update the event numbers to keep everyone informed.
- Chuck-A-Duck- This is one of the fundraisers we do during the meet. Walk around with a bag of rubber ducks and a clipboard for people to claim their ducks! During the middle of the meet, people have the chance to chuck their duck into the life preserver! Lucky ducks will get to split the pot 50/50 with the team!
- All swimmers and parents are asked to assist in cleaning up their areas after both home and away meets.
- Parents are responsible for your children's (swimmers and non-swimmers) behavior at all Barracuda activities including practices, meets, and special events.
BARRACUDA BOARD - If you are interested in joining the Mazo Swim Team board or helping to run/organize other specific areas of Barracudas, please contact any board member listed on our website.
